Veterans Day Ceremony - November 7, 2018
Under an intense blue sky, following a day of heavy rain, Coast Guard officers, veterans, their relatives and friends, city and state officials, and 200 children from the Warwick Neck Elementary School with Principal Patricia Cousineau gathered at the Warwick Lighthouse on November 7 to celebrate the men and women who have served in all branches of the armed forces.
An opening prayer was given by the Reverend Robert Marciano of St. Kevin and St. Benedict Parish, a veteran with 36 years service in the military. The flag was raised by veterans Jack Henriques and Leo Scansaroli, followed by the pledge of allegiance led by scouts and former marine Robert Cutler. Brief remarks were delivered by Coast Guard Commander Josh Fant and Warwick's newly elected mayor, Joseph Solomon.
The school children were then front and center for the remainder of the celebration, reading poetry and speeches and concluding the morning’s events with choral singing under the direction of Kristy Procaccianti.
The sun-filled day matched perfectly the warmth of emotion expressed for the men and women who have served our nation in war and peace.
